Battery recycler Ace Green Recycling has supplied a lead battery recycling plant to Taiwanese recycler Acme Metal Enterprise. It is the first of three phases.
Ace, of Singapore and the US, said it will provide equipment and proprietary chemicals so Acme can produce its GreenLead product.
It is the second successful deployment of Ace’s lead battery recycling technology, according to the company. No financial details were disclosed.
Acme is Taiwan’s leading lead recycler with over 40 years’ successful operations behind it, according to Ace Green. It will become one of the largest producers of emissions-free lead, with a capacity to recycle 20,000 tonnes per year of lead batteries to produce about 12,000 tonnes of recycled lead. That will generate nearly $24 million in annual revenue.
Key markets for Acme will be Taiwan and Japan, including leading battery OEMs across Asia. Two more phased handovers will follow this year as part of a 10-year contract.
Linus P. Lu, managing director of Acme, said it was an important milestone as it builds capacity for sustainable lead recycling.
Ace’s recycling technology replaces the smelting furnace and is electrically powered at room temperature. It claims to have no Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions and reduces solid waste by over 85%.
